VOCA heads up: Robert Waters @ Mizuma Gallery, Tokyo curated by Shai Ohayon.
Canadian Artist Abroad: Robert Waters in Tokyo
May 21st, 2010 | Sculpture/Installation, Upcoming Exhibitions
Canadian artist Robert Waters has a show, curated by Shai Ohayon, at Tokyo’s Mizuma Art Gallery.
Waters’ projects “investigate the human nature and body through themes of male sexuality, violence and mortality“, and present the human body as a site of political action, according to the press release.
He uses materials in fantastic ways, like his packing tape wall installations, Man at Computer, into which he carves a negative image with an razor blade. We love how this work demands the artist’s labour and focus with each re-installation.
Clean up your act you dirty faggots, is a series of gay pornographic images taken from 1970s magazines, but made with bleach and iodine on paper that fades and corrodes away over time.
